The Catechist Team share their Catholic faith with the children of four Government Schools within our Parish boundary: Bankstown South Infants, Mount Lewis Infants, Punchbowl Primary and Wiley Park Primary.

The children participate in prepared weekly religious education lessons which are set by the Archdiocese of Sydney’s Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. These lessons involve scripture, prayer and core understandings and reflections of lesson focus. The children also enjoy the Special lessons that are prepared for Easter, Christmas and four Special Feast Days – The Assumption of Our Lady, Our Lady of the Southern Cross Help of Christians, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the Feast of St Jerome.

During the year the children can earn points for various awards for their participation and contribution. These awards are presented at the end of the school year.

Are you willing to share your Catholic faith with our children in the State Schools? Lessons are 30 mins each week during school term. The children enjoy the visits and it is also rewarding for the catechist who see the faith development of the children in their care. Assistance and basic courses are provided to people who are interested in being a catechist or a catechist helper. These are volunteer positions.

Catechist lesson books are available to assist with lesson preparation and presentation. There are also supplementary catechist resources available to enhance lessons. Students also receive a workbook which contains the lessons for the year.

There is a catechist coordinator who coordinates catechists and assists with their lesson preparation. The coordinator liaises with the Parish Priest through the year.

If you wish to volunteer as a Catechist or Catechist helper or seek more information please contact the Parish Office 9709 3223
